In the Eredivisie, Carl Hoefkens and NAC Breda lost against AZ Alkmaar of Maarten Martens (1-2). The meeting ended in general chaos.
NAC Breda lost to AZ in the Eredivisie. A bad deal in the race for Europe, because Carl Hoefkens’ men are now 9 points from 5th place, while those of Maarten Martens climb to 6th place in the championship.
NAC captain Jan Van den Bergh was extremely frustrated after the match. He pointed out the decisions of the referee, Edwin van de Graaf, which he considered doubtful.
“I think we started well, but then it’s difficult when you often find yourself fourteen against eleven,” Van den Bergh said on ESPN. The referee and the assistant referee? “I’m just saying we were outnumbered. Interpret that however you want.”
The entire meeting was marked by agitation and frustration among the players. Following the match, it even degenerated into a general brawl (images below). And according to the NAC Breda captain, it’s because of the refereeing.
“This match degenerated naturally because there was an accumulation of unfortunate decisions,” Van den Bergh said. “This creates a certain tension in the stadium. Can we then point the finger at the supporters?”
