We often repeat it on Nuit , the Livret A is an investment of choice for millions of French people. There are more than 57 million people who own one. They can't open just one anyway. This is a rule that is essential to respect. You have no choice, anyway, since banks do the necessary checks each time you open an account.

But if the Livret A can be very interesting, especially with its remuneration rate of 3%, it can also cause a lot of trouble. In any case, that's what you would probably say, Roland Fernandez. This 72-year-old retiree who lives in Hautes-Alpes met our colleagues from BVFM . He then explains to them why he has been living for several months on only 680 euros per month.

When a Livret A ruins your life

Until a few months ago, Roland was a modest retiree. In addition to his pension, he received Aspa, the solidarity allowance for the elderly (former old age minimum). But he no longer receives this allowance since it was abolished by Carsat, the Retirement and Occupational Health Insurance Fund.

Obviously, Roland's life is no longer the same. It must be said that Aspa allowed him to receive an additional 500 euros every month. This payment, then, granted him the funds necessary to live simply without complaint.

But today, the retiree's routine consists of spending the days in front of the television. Enough to make him feel like he's living in a prison. This painful decision by Carsat does not come out of nowhere. The Insurance Office blames Roland's Livret A. And, despite the latter's letters, things do not change.

But why is Livret A at the origin of this surprising and difficult loss of income? Did Roland do something wrong?

A Livret A with a lot of money

Concretely, the organization criticizes Roland for having perceived almost 6,000 euros in industrial costs between 2018 and 2023, after discovering that he had an A booklet whose balance, funded by the sale of a house in , exceeded several thousand euros. This money, according to Roland, was to finance expenses for his children, such as their studies or daily expenses.

Carsat's decision has serious consequences for Roland. He does not simply suffer the suppression of his Aspa. He must also reimburse the sum of 5,941.68 euros. Enough to push the retiree to consider resuming professional activity. All this, because of his Livret A.

An increasingly difficult situation

Faced with this double punishment, Roland fears not being able to pay his rent and finds himself increasingly precarious. Fortunately, he can count on the support of his family. His 22-year-old daughter told him she wanted him to come live with her.

This story from BFM TV sheds light on surprising, but legal, situations. Carsat is within its rights, since it was not aware of all the elements of the retiree's situation.

Livret A is a very important investment, practical and reliable. But it shouldn't make you suffer. So, learn to use it well and don't hide it from the authorities who should know of its existence.
