Fiat wants to return to the accessible car market with Panda. But, although it was revealed 6 months ago now, one question remains: how much will the hybrid version of the Fiat Grande Panda cost? While Fiat emphasizes its 100% electric version, the prices of which are already known and the first deliveries are starting to be delayed, it is the hybrid thermal version which seems to attract just as much, if not more, attention. If the hybrid thermal version becomes the big news at Fiat, it is also intended to be the “accessible” entry level. However, to date, Fiat has not yet communicated on the price of this hybrid version.
Price rumors
Initially, some rumors predicted a price below €20,000a price which would have made the Fiat Grande Panda hybrid a real success in the category of accessible vehicles. But as the launch approaches, a surprise seems to be looming: it could ultimately be a price higher than this estimate. What reasons can explain this additional cost and what price can we really expect?
A comparison with the Citroën C3 hybrid
To better understand the situation, a little calculation is necessary. If we compare the Fiat Grande Panda hybrid with the Citroën C3which is a direct technical cousin, the prices are revealing. Here is a comparative table of prices for electric and hybrid models from these two brands, with the resulting estimates.
Model | Citroen Prix | Fiat Price |
---|---|---|
AMI / Mickey Mouse | 7 990 € | 9 890 € |
eC3 / Big Panda BEV | 23 300 € | 24 900 € |
C3 MHEV / Grande Panda MHEV | 20 200 € | €21,300 (estimated) |
As we can see, the Fiat generally costs more than Citroënand this trend could continue with the Fiat Grande Panda. For the hybrid thermal version, the price of the Fiat Grande Panda MHEV would be estimated at around €21,300by applying the same calculation reasoning based on the price differences observed between the electric and hybrid models of the two brands. This estimate is based on a mathematical rule, where the Fiat is often a little more expensive than its technical cousin, Citroën.
A price deliberately close to the electric version?
If the Fiat Grande Panda Hybrid is indeed launched at this estimated price of €21,300, it raises an interesting question: could this price get closer to that of the 100% electric version of the Fiat Grande Panda, which is being offered at €24,900? Indeed, with government purchasing aid in force in certain European countries, the electric version could become cheaper than the thermal hybrid versionwhich would be a surprising reversal compared to the usual logic of hybrid models that are often more affordable, and therefore more sold, than their fully electric counterparts.
Currently, the 100% electric version of the Fiat Grande Panda is already open for order in several European countries. Orders in France started in October 2024with deliveries expected in January 2025. On the other hand, in countries like Germany, Austria or Portugal, orders have just started since December 2024. For the moment, in Italy, orders are still not open and it seems that the 100% electric version seems to be launched at the same time as the hybrid versions, hopefully for January 2025.
Meanwhile, the classic Fiat Panda, with its entry-level price of €15,900 for the Panda City version, and continues to represent an affordable alternative.
