A smartphone that reads like an open book

With the Honor Magic V3, the brand is stepping on the toes, even on the toes of foldable smartphones, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, and it doesn’t come with its hands in its pockets. Already, it presents itself as the thinnest smartphone in the world: 4.35 mm when open and 9.2 mm when closed. To stay in comparison with its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is 5.6 mm when open and 12.2 mm when closed. You therefore gain 3 mm by opting for the Honor Magic V3 and will have the impression of having a classic smartphone in your hand.

Moreover, closed, it is just as useful and functional as a classic smartphone since it displays an Oled LTPO panel whose refresh rate can go up to 120 Hz on a surface area of 6.43″, compared to 7. 92″ when opened with a 10:9 aspect ratio very close to a square. According to our test, the external screen is much better calibrated than the internal screen, so you won’t feel a feeling of frustration if you use it closed. Note that both screens tend to be a bit blue, which might displease some.

There is very little to complain about Honor

A quick tour from the owner on the technical side, because he can’t limit himself to having a pretty face. The Honor Magic V3 also rolls mechanics with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which we find for example in the Xiaomi 14. A processor unveiled at the start of the year and where we already had a feeling that it was going to skyrocket the price of smartphones where it would be installed, since, alone, it costs 200 dollars.

Add to that 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB storage to accommodate all your apps and you understand that the smartphone is super fluid. For photos, you have three sensors of 50, 50 and 40 Mpx to film at maximum in 4K@60 Hz. You would think that the battery would have difficulty holding up, with two screens including an XL, but it does not is nothing: Honor has managed to maintain a the state in which with a capacity of 5,150 mAh compatible with 66 W fast charging for a little more than a day of autonomy in typical use.

A few small flaws to highlight anyway: the use of AI, a little too timid compared to what Samsung does, for example, even if there are great promises with in particular the Magic Portal which reinvents copying/ stick. For monitoring and updates, Honor announces 4 major ones and 5 years of security patches, where Google and Samsung offer 7 years.
