Israelis woke up Monday morning with the hostage symbol towering over their heads, reminding us of the painful fact that one hundred hostages remain held by Hamas for 437 days. The symbol has been seen in the skies of many cities across the country, including Jerusalem, Rosh Ha’ayin and Ramat Gan.
Many Israelis shared photos of the sky above their heads on social media, with some even expressing hope that a deal would be reached soon. “Let them finally bring them back,” wrote one of the Internet users.
Amid progress in hostage deal negotiations, Israeli channel Canciting sources involved in the talks, reported that the planned plan could leave some hostages in captivity for an extended period.
An Israeli source told Can : “Things are progressing quickly”, and the opinion in Israel is that “these are decisive days”. According to those involved in the hostage release process, if Israel is not prepared to meaningfully discuss an end to the conflict, the arrangement could leave some of the hostages in captivity for an extended period.
What’s more, Israeli officials have said that we are on the eve of a “crucial week” in the negotiations. According to them, Hamas should respond this week to the proposal submitted to it. “There is slow but positive progress. It is no coincidence that the discussions are shrouded in secrecy,” these officials said. At the same time, the chain Al-Arabiya reported that a senior Hamas official said there was “unprecedented” progress in negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza.
