DIRECT. New government: François Bayrou is preparing to receive Marine Le Pen, Gabriel Attal and Olivier Faure this morning

François Bayrou will receive this Monday the parliamentary groups and party leaders “in their order of importance” numerically in the National Assembly, his entourage announced to AFP.

François Bayrou will then speak with Gabriel Attal, who is both the leader of the Macronist deputies Ensemble pour la République (EPR) and the president of the Renaissance party. Should follow the representatives of the Socialist Party, then those of the right, ecologists, MoDem, Horizons, the independents of Liot, the communists, and the Ciottists of UDR allied with the RN.

France Insoumise (LFI) for its part preferred to refuse the invitation.

During the traditional transfer of power, the head of MoDem repeated his mantras. Debt and deficits first, “a question which poses a moral problem, not just a financial problem”, he said, while France has reached records in this area in 2024.

Other promises include tackling the “glass wall that has been built between citizens and those in power”, and above all “giving opportunities to those who don’t have them”.

The centrist leader must put up with an Assembly which can bring him down if the voices of the left unite with those of the National Rally, as during the motion which ended Michel Barnier’s lease. Jordan Bardella has also warned him: the head of government will be “under the surveillance” of Parliament and the RN. The New Popular Front, which has already announced that it will not participate in the government, is divided over its attitude towards the new occupant of Matignon.
