American President-elect Donald Trump has chosen businessman Bill White as the new ambassador to Belgium, he announced on his social network Truth Social. Bill White will replace Michael M. Adler, who has served as United States Ambassador to our country since 2022.
“Bill is a highly respected businessman, philanthropist, author and advocate for our military, veterans and first responders,” Donald Trump said Saturday on Truth Social. “Bill worked tirelessly to support the Great American Patriots, who gave their all for our country, raising more than $1.5 billion for our fallen heroes.”
Bill White is the CEO of the consulting firm Constellations Group and the former president of the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York. He stepped down as president of the museum in 2010 after New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo opened an investigation into a pension scandal, reports Politico. Mr White allegedly acted as an intermediary for an investment company to strike deals with a state pension fund and allegedly “secretly” been paid for these agreements. He ultimately agreed to pay $1 million to settle the charges.
Also according to Politico, Bill White was one of the main donors to Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. He nevertheless supported Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in previous White House races. In 2012, Mr. White publicly withdrew his support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, whom he considered “on the wrong side of history” because of his stance on same-sex marriage.
