what future for rurality?

The mayors of municipalities with less than 3,500 inhabitants gathered on Saturday December 14, in Saint-Claude-de-Diray, for the annual meeting of the Association of Rural Mayors (AMRF) of Loir-et-Cher (1). On this occasion, local elected officials were able to express their concerns and questions to representatives of departmental services.

New provisions for travelers

Security was the most important aspect of these exchanges. The elected officials are now designated by the prefect as “safety advisors” with the gendarmerie and police services, in order to “to identify the places where acts of delinquency are most numerous”.

Faced with the illegal occupation of land by Travelers, the prefect Xavier Pelletier assumes his policy of expulsions: “I want to make Loir-et-Cher a less “friendly” territory [accueillant] for travelers. These expulsions are necessary in the face of the extreme tensions that these installations can generate. »

At the start of 2025, the prefecture wishes to put in place contracts between municipalities and travelers with obligations and invoicing linked to water and electricity consumption. At the same time, new high-traffic areas will have to be built in the department (one in the north and two in the south) to comply with the law.

Improve academic support

On the education side, elected officials denounce the multiplication of tasks for Supporters of Students with Disabilities (AESH), which would not allow the specific needs of each child to be taken into account.

On this subject, the academic director of Loir-et-Cher Solène Berrivin responds: “Some students need individualized AESH, others do not. We can assign several children to a carer if we consider it possible. We must also anticipate difficulties in terms of recruitment, since we already have difficulty housing new arrivals in the region. »

“Find living spaces where people meet”

For Xavier Pelletier, this housing problem also worries business leaders. New developments could be started at the beginning of 2025, particularly in the municipalities of Val de Cher Controis: “I would like to launch an experiment per village to densify town centers, by developing unused land, old wastelands and building attractive housing. »

These experiments could extend to the Cœur de Sologne community of communes, by renovating old disused inns to “find living spaces where people meet”. The prefect specifies that calls for projects will be carried out with the Loir-et-Cher Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The attractiveness also lies in the department's medical offering, which we know is limited in certain health sectors. “The first question people ask themselves before settling in is: is there fiber and are there doctors? »recalls the vice-president of the departmental council Catherine Lheritier. The latter announced the creation of attractiveness agencies for “attract talent to Loir-et-Cher, particularly in the medical and paramedical sectors”.

(1) Among the 253 municipalities with fewer than 3,500 inhabitants in Loir-et-Cher, 173 mayors are part of this association.
