Who are the favorites for the 2024 CAF Awards men’s categories?
As the fateful evening approaches, CAF revealed the last finalists of the 7 men’s categories called for awards. The international striker Nigerian Ademola Lookman (27 years old, 23 caps, 6 goals) is the editorial favoriteAfrik-Foot in front of the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, whose name was leaked as winner. This, given his performances at the CAN with the Super Eagles, but also with Atalanta where he has been in the spotlight since his hat-trick in the Europa League final.
Having also fled as winner of his category, the Franco-Ivorian coach of the team of Ivory CoastEmerse Faé, unexpected winner of CAN 2023, should be crowned best coach against his French counterparts Sébastien Desabre and Belgian Hugo Broos of the RDC and South Africa respectively.
Among the goalkeepers, it is Sudafricain Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns), announced winner, who starts ahead of Cameroonian André Onana and the Ivorian Yahia Fofana, thanks to his prodigious saves at CAN 2023.
Miraculously victorious in “its” CAN last February, the Ivory Coast team should logically be awarded Team of the Year at the expense of its opponents Nigeria and South Africa.
The Rémois Oumar Diakité is the favorite for the Young Player of the Year to the chagrin of his compatriot Karim Konaté (Salzburg) and the Senegalese Lamine Camara (Monaco), due to his memorable performance at CAN 2023, punctuated by his goal in the 120th in the quarter-finals.
Contrary to the revelations of Al Ahly TV praising its player Hussein Al Shahat, Ronwen Williams appears best equipped to win the Interclub Player of the Year award. Like his compatriot EgyptianZizo should therefore remain on the sidelines. Finally, Al Ahly should beat Zamalek as well as Mamelodi Sundowns for the Club of the Year.
