This Wednesday, December 11 in Furiani, an agreement was signed between the fire and rescue service of Haute-Corse (SIS 2B) and the federation of hunters of Haute-Corse (FDHCC). Its purpose: to carry out an annual program of controlled burning. A technique consisting of burning part of the vegetation to eliminate brush, with a dual objective: preventing fires and preserving wildlife.
Through this agreement, SIS 2B undertakes to make available to the hunters’ federation, agents and equipment for carrying out these burns. “This is a considerable step, rejoices Hyacinthe Vanni, the president of SIS 2B. It’s not a question of setting fires willy-nilly, all the parameters of the ecosystem will be analyzed upstream.”
Hunters concerned about the environment
For Jean-Baptiste Mari, the president of the Haute-Corse hunters’ federation, the convention also has other virtues: “Thanks to these actions, we give the public another image of hunters, far from the usual caricatures, more concerned with preserving the environment.”
