At least two people were injured and infrastructure was damaged in the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv following an overnight attack by Russian drones and missiles, regional authorities said on Sunday.

Governor Vitalii Kim said Ukrainian air defenses shot down four drones over Mykolaiv early in the morning, but despite those efforts one of them struck the city.

Local media report that Russia launched a total of 108 drones and one anti-aircraft missile overnight as part of its air campaign against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force said it managed to shoot down 56 of these drones.

The attacks targeted Ukrainian regions such as Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, drone activity has continued to increase: more than 2,500 drones were deployed by the Russians in November compared to 2,023 in October.

Across the border in the Russian city of Belgorod, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said a Ukrainian drone attack had killed a nine-year-old boy.

Mr Gladkov said 37 drones had been fired into the region in the space of 24 hours. One of these attacks reportedly hit a residential building in the village of Maysky, killing the boy and injuring his mother and sister.

Also on Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had captured the Vesyoly Gai and Pushkino areas of Donetsk.
