Did you dream of seeing Dwayne Johnson transform into a superhero? Good news, it’s done with this adventure film, half-action, half-fantasy, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (to whom we owe Non-Stop, Without Identity, and Night Run).
Want another TV tip for tonight? We recommend this thriller with Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in front of Alfred Hitchcock’s camera!
Released in cinemas in 2022, Black Adam tells the fate of Teth Adam, a slave who received superpowers from the gods during the time of ancient Kahndaq. Unfortunately, these were misused since he used them for revenge and ended up in prison.
Five millennia later, when he is finally free, he brings his very dark conception of justice to reign in the world. Refusing to surrender, Teth Adam must face modern-day heroes who make up the Justice Society, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone, and all have one goal: send him back to prison for ‘eternity.
In the cast of Black Adam, we therefore find Dwayne Johnson, but also Aldis Hodge (The Walking Dead), Pierce Brosnan (Tomorrow Never Dies), Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin) or Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest).
Extreme physical preparation
With Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson realizes a childhood dream: to play in a superhero film, and particularly dedicated to this character: “I’m drawn to Black Adam, because he’s one of the few superheroes, or supervillains, and anti-heroes who had dark skin and looked like me. Plus, he was a really badass “.
And who says superhero, says superhuman strength. So, to slip into the skin of the character, the actor with impressive musculature chose to prepare intensely for more than a year. His sports sessions have also been shared on social networks.
And the results amazed the film team, and more particularly the costume designers Kurt and Bart: “This is the very first time we’ve met someone with a real superhero body. No one has a physique like his. No one, except Dwayne Johnson“.
So, is Black Adam really stronger than the unstoppable Superman (who also makes an appearance in the film)? That’s for you to judge!
