In prison for attempted murder in Bouillargues, his state of health is declared incompatible with detention

A man suffering from Crohn’s disease recently requested his release for medical reasons. He had requested the investigating chamber of the Nîmes Court of Appeal. He also firmly denies having wanted to kill his partner in September 2023 in the Bouillargues sector. He has been in prison since September 2023. The court had kept him in detention. But a few days later, the investigating judge ordered the release of the suspect because his condition was declared incompatible with detention. The suspect suffers from an inflammatory disease which led to the implementation of a medical assessment. At the end of 14 months of pre-trial detention, the thirty-year-old was released under strict judicial supervision. Before the investigating chamber, Me Dolez () pleaded for electronic home surveillance. “He suffers from an extremely severe form of Crohn’s disease which is accompanied by a risk of infection and vital intestinal damage. He feeds exclusively on a powder like for babies and only eats this way”argued the criminal lawyer at the hearing of the Court of Appeal on December 4.

The case could be judged in the coming months by the Nîmes courts. The possibility of a reclassification of the facts cannot be excluded and would open the door to a criminal case being tried for aggravated violence if, however, the investigating judge were to rule out homicidal intent.
