who is Angélique Angarni-Filopon, first Miss thirties in history

Crowned Miss on Saturday in , Miss stood out from the other candidates because of her age: 34 years old. A symbol of the modernization of the competition, for a long time prohibited to those over 24.

A historic coronation. Miss Martinique 2024 Angélique Angarni-Filopon was elected Miss France 2025 this Saturday, December 14, live from Futuroscope in Poitiers. At 34, this short-haired flight attendant, who succeeds Eve Gilles, stood out in particular for her age.

The oldest candidate in the competition, she thus became the first Miss France in the history of the show to be thirty years old. A particularity that the young woman, who had already presented herself in the Miss Martinique election in 2011, highlighted throughout the evening.

“In 2011, a young woman aged 20 finished first runner-up in the Miss Martinique competition. Today, it is this same young woman aged 34 who stands before you to once again represent Martinique, its diaspora as well than all the women who were once told that it was too late,” she said in her introductory speech.

Questioned by TF1 a few hours after her coronation, Angélique Angarni-Filopon nevertheless assures that she does not want to be reduced solely to her age or her short haircut, like her predecessor, Eve Gilles.

“Obviously I don’t want to be characterized by my short hair or by my age. Because neither of these define me at all. You’ll see, I have very good energy “I don’t know how to do anything other than smile. We’re going to have an incredible year,” she said.

“I have never been the most beautiful”

Born in the North Caribbean, Angélique Angarni-Filopon is a cabin crew member for Corsair. Although today she proudly wears the colors of her island where she has lived for two years, the new Miss France did not grow up in Martinique but in Val d’Oise.

A childhood of which Angélique Angarni-Filopon has bitter memories. Speaking to Le Parisien, she confides that she was the victim of mockery when she was younger because of her size and her teeth, at the time “very forward”.

“I was never the most beautiful. Even the least beautiful. I had braces, my teeth were very forward, and I grew so much in 6th grade that there were no pants in my size . I had friends very late,” she explained to Le Parisien.

Despite everything, Angélique Angarni-Filopon entered the Miss France competition in 2011 where she finished first runner-up in the Miss Martinique competition. When the age criteria were widened, the young woman decided to try her luck again. A challenge that paid off.

Has the Miss France competition really been modernized?

Committed to breast cancer

At a press conference following her coronation, Angélique Angarni-Filopon also mentioned her father, from whom she claims to get her naturalness and ease in expressing herself in public.

“He is a retired ex-chief brigadier and he continues to train police officers. I think he taught me, my brother and my sister how to manage,” underlined the young woman.

The new Miss France also spoke of the pride she saw in her parents’ eyes after her victory. “In my family, we are used to not talking much and instead proving things to each other, because we are West Indians, we are very proud,” she concluded.
