Kinshasa: 4th day of sit-in by municipal councilors at the Prime Minister’s office

Communal councilors from different provinces of the DRC have been in sit-in for more than four days in front of the Prime Minister’s office in Kinshasa, Radio Okapi noted on Saturday December 14.

The demonstrators are demanding in particular their effective support from the Government, like the deputies. According to them, they will leave this place until the Prime Minister finds a solution to their demands; despite the bad weather.

Alexandra Tshiama Mamba, elected representative from Lukonga, in the town of Kananga and head of the delegation from the Kasaï-Central province, explains:

“We are determined. We have no places to put ourselves in Kinshasa. We also remind you that on the second day, the Prime Minister’s office came. We consulted with these agents, we we proposed some memorandums of understanding and we decided to leave here only if the Prime Minister signs her signature so that we can see clearly in these memorandums of understanding.

The municipal councilors first demanded the organization of mayoral elections.

But while waiting for the elections, we want a well-organized working environment between the mayors who are in place, appointed, as well as us. We remind you that we make decisions, we are deliberative bodies, but our decisions remain without execution“, explained Alexandra Tshiama.

The second demand concerns their support; “because we were elected on the same day with the President of the Republic, with the national deputies, with the provincial deputies. But unfortunately, they are supported by the Government, and we, who are from the first experience, we We are abandoned to our sad fate.
