a Maghreb country confirmed in the top 3 in Africa – La Nouvelle Tribune

The distribution of natural gas reserves in Africa has recently come to light. L'Algeriaa country of Maghreboccupies a strategic place, ranking among the top three nations on the continent with the greatest resources. With reserves estimated at 4,504 billion cubic meters, the country ranks second, behind Nigeria, but get ahead of it Mozambiquethus consolidating its status as an African and global energy power.

L’North Africa as a whole concentrates almost half of the continent's natural gas reserves, confirming the preponderant role of this region in the hydrocarbon sector. THE Nigeria dominates with 5.943 billion cubic meters, followed byAlgeriaand the Mozambique completes the top three with 2.840 billion cubic meters. These three countries alone provide a significant part of the total reserves estimated at 17,890 billion cubic meters for the whole of Africa.

Beyond the numbers, theAlgeria stands out for its strategic position in the international gas market. A key player in the sector, the country has established itself as a major producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). With a production capacity of 25.5 million tonnes per year, it is ahead of Nigeria (22.2 million tonnes/year) andEgypt (12.2 million tonnes/year), thus establishing itself as the African leader in this field. This constantly increasing production capacity allows theAlgeria to be among the main energy partners in global markets and to meet growing energy needs.

The impact of these resources goes beyond the borders of the African continent. Thanks to its developed gas infrastructure and its geographical proximity to theEuropel’Algeria has become an essential supplier for several European countries. This situation gives it a strategic role both on the African scene and on the global energy market.

Future prospects for natural gas reserves in Africaand particularly in Algeria, are promising. Experts emphasize that these resources could guarantee the continent's energy supply for several more decades. This potential relies on effective management of reserves, combined with continued exploration of the opportunities offered by hydrocarbons and alternative energies.
