Algeria Football– Moroccan international footballer Hakim Ziyech, currently under contract with Galatasaray in Turkey, recently informed his teammates of his intention to leave the club from the winter transfer window of January 2025. This decision comes in a difficult sporting context, but also against a backdrop of controversy policies that kept him away from the Moroccan national team.
According to information reported by the Turkish channel
NTVZiyech has made his intention to leave Galatasaray clear, notably due to a lack of playing time and difficulty fully adapting within the club. Since the start of the season, the 31-year-old attacking midfielder has participated in ten matches in all competitions, with only one assist to his credit, delivered during a match against Samsunspor on November 10 in the Turkish league.
Injured for much of the season due to a partial muscle tear, Ziyech failed to return to his best level. His limited performance also contributed to a loss of popularity with Galatasaray fans, which appears to have accelerated his decision to seek a new challenge.
International offers on the table
Several clubs are interested in Ziyech for this winter transfer window. Among them, teams from the Saudi Pro League, notably Al-Nassr, as well as clubs from the Qatar Stars League and even a Major League Soccer (MLS) team in the United States. A club from the English championship has also reportedly expressed interest in the former Chelsea player, who remains an attractive profile thanks to his experience and versatility.
Ziyech, whose contract with Galatasaray runs until June 2025, could however leave the club before its end, since the next transfer window will allow him to negotiate with other teams.
A sideline from the national selection
At the same time, Hakim Ziyech is currently excluded from the Moroccan national team, a situation which does not go unnoticed. The player recently openly criticized the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel, a policy advocated by King Mohammed VI. These statements caused tensions within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, leading to its temporary banishment from the Atlas Lions.
This exclusion comes against a backdrop where Ziyech, once considered a pillar of the national team, has contributed significantly to Morocco’s exceptional run at the 2022 World Cup. However, his public criticism on sensitive political issues has muddied his relationship with the governing bodies of Moroccan football.
What future for Ziyech?
While his immediate future seems to be taking shape away from Galatasaray, Hakim Ziyech remains a player whose talent is beyond doubt. However, his positions and the sporting challenges he currently encounters raise the question of his long-term future. By choosing his next club, Ziyech will not only have to reinvent himself on the pitch, but also navigate a complex media context marked by his non-football positions.
With promising international offers, he seems ready to open a new chapter in a career already full of twists and turns. But it remains to be seen whether the talented attacking midfielder can rediscover the brilliance that made him one of the emblematic figures of Moroccan football.
