Gallo Prize: And the winners are…

In recent years the unexpected emergence of Gallo in the Breton galaxy has made it possible to fill an identity void in a good eastern half of called “Upper Brittany” or “Country Gallo”. It must be said that, in the name of “Celticism”, the Breton autonomist movement widely practices in Brittany a Jacobin policy which it denounces, moreover, in .

This is how signs in Breton are put up in parts of Brittany which have never spoken Breton, Breton schools are created in places where Breton is as spoken by the elderly as Chinese and that, at the same time, the original language of the Hauts-Bretons is despised because “not Celtic enough”.

Clearly, the left-wing Breton movement, “anti-fascist, anti-racist and decolonialist” has nothing to envy of the worst Jacobin regimes and is working to practice its own little inner racism!

Because the Gallos also have their culture and their language which are very different from those of Finistère Brittany. And, from now on, they make it known through the “gallo prizes” awarded each year in at the headquarters of the Regional Council. The principle is simple: people who have put Gallo in the spotlight during the year are chosen by a jury and prizes are awarded to them, each in a different field, during a ceremony which is generally attended by the president of Paul Molac region. Very Breton particularity: while these awards should be a moment of celebration of Breton culture (remember that the Gallo country covers more than half of Brittany), Breton political movements and their elected officials shun the ceremony. For what ? Surely not enough curlers…

Diversity yes, but not within the Breton identity!

For those who want to discover this “other Brittany”, a broadcast of the ceremony, entirely filmed, will be available on the local channels Rennes, Tébéo and TéBéSud from next Friday, December 13.

The winners of the 2024 “Priz du Galo” are:

???? Gallophone Prize: Réjane Pêcheux-Deluce

Presented by Kaourintine Hulaud, Regional Advisor responsible for the Welsh language

Réjane Pêcheux-Deluce is at the head of the Qerouézée association which aims to support, promote and boost the practice of the Welsh language in the east of the Côtes d'Armor. We owe him in particular the organization of Gallo en scène, a festival which highlights gallo in public spaces. Réjane Pêcheux-Deluce also has other commitments which all revolve around Gallo: storyteller, singer, radio presenter (RCF and Bretagne 5) and trainer in Gallo…

???? Community Prize: Montfort Community

Presented by Loïg Chesnais-Girard, President of the Brittany Region

Montfort Community (35) is rewarded for signing the charter “Du Galo, dame Yan, dame Vère” and the training of its agents in the Welsh language. After signing the charter last October, the community of municipalities offered 50 of its employees the opportunity to take Welsh language courses, provided by the Gallo Institute.

???? Prize for the future of gallo: The Sainte-Anne school in Romagné (35)

Presented by Nathalie Tréhel-Tas, President of the Welsh Language Institute

The Sainte-Anne private school in Romagné, in Ille-et-Vilaine, is distinguished for its intergenerational work around the Welsh language. The students and their grandparents wrote mini-plays together, sketches of daily life or based on memories.

???? Cultural Action Prize: The Cultural Action Center (CAC) Sud 22

Presented by Ronan Coignard, President of the Cultural Council of Brittany / President of the Cultural Council of Bertègn

Around Loudéac, the CAC Sud des Côtes d'Armor has created, with Gnome Prod, a treasure hunt entirely in Gallo: “L'enferluzée des tailes de lin”, an artistic plot in the heart of central Brittany! In this investigation with multiple twists and turns, players must be attentive to the clues hidden on the ground and listen to the testimonies of the different protagonists using their tablets or smartphones. The game can be played outdoors or indoors. Town halls, media libraries and associations can ask to rent it to offer a friendly moment… discovering and practicing the Welsh language.

???? Company or association prize: Bertons

Submitted by Paul Molac, Regional Advisor / Rejiona Advisor.

Based in Guichen (35), Bertons presents itself as “a brand of objects for Haut-Bretons” and “a brand of love for Gallo”. T-shirts, caps, drinks or recipe books, Bertons will soon open its online store, in partnership with the Welsh Language Institute which translates the texts of its products. Objects that are intended to be original, fun, ethical and… educational.
