Gabrielle-Major Prize: the five finalist texts from the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy are known
By: Jean-Philippe Morin
A collegial competition which rewards literary talent, the Gabrielle-Major Prize was created in memory of Gabrielle, a former Cégep student who tragically died in 2020. First reserved exclusively for the student population of the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, the competition t is enhanced for this third edition with the addition of two participating colleges, namely Collège Laflèche in Trois-Rivières and Collège Brébeuf in Montréal.
Each of the three participating CEGEPs, via their own jury, had to, among all the texts received locally, identify the five best. In total, 15 texts will be analyzed by the members of a provincial jury.
With regard to the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, the texts in the running are Musings of a Hiker (Émile Charbonneau, student in Arts, letters and communication), Hypnos, Lord of Shadows and Sleep (Lucas Boudreau, Tremplin DEC student), Soldier of iron, soldier of flesh (Talissa Gagnon, student in Arts, letters and communications), Heading for the dream (Fernand Chartier-Lefebvre, nursing student) and Dreaming of sleeping (Léanne Thibodeau, student in Arts, letters and communication).
To these five texts will be added the five finalist texts from Collège Laflèche as well as the five from Collège Brébeuf.
During the unveiling of the winning text which will take place on February 6 at the Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, a $400 scholarship will be offered by the Fondation du Cégep de Sorel-Tracy to the deserving author.
