Digi, here is the name of the new telecom operator on the Belgian market. What possibilities does it offer to Belgian consumers?
Digi, the 4th telecom operator in Belgium, launched its first commercial offer on Wednesday. This offers calls, SMS and 15 GB of mobile internet for a price of 5 euros per month. The offer is available nationwide.
“For almost 75% of Belgians, this mobile offer includes enough data so that they can stay connected and fully enjoy their daily activities, without worrying about a lack of data“, estimates the operator, who had promised “never before seen prices” in Belgium.
Invited on the RTL info 1 p.m. set, Jean-Philippe Ducart, spokesperson for Testachats, discussed the consequences of this arrival on the market for consumers. “This is good news for consumers, we can describe Digi as a “price breaker” and therefore it will have a direct effect for the consumer who will want to choose this operator with prices that are very competitive. This should also have an effect more generally on the entire telecoms market, since I suppose that the other operators will finally react and also lower their prices which have continued to increase in recent years“, he explains.
With a base price of 5 euros per month for 15 gigabytes of data, can we say that it is this new operator which is particularly inexpensive or are it the others which are too expensive? “It’s a bit of both“, notes the spokesperson. “On the one hand, Digi’s offer is very competitive, so they are entering the Belgian market with the qualification of really being a price breaker and therefore they have an investment plan to be very competitive, and on the other hand, we knows that on a European average, Belgium is very expensive when it comes to telecoms. On the European average, we are really not well positioned, and so it is clear that there is undoubtedly a bit of both and that Digi is really entering as a fourth angel operator to slash prices on the telecoms market. .
