This week, all employees of the three Quebec hotel associations met to find concrete solutions to share their complementary skills with the entire industry they represent.

The meeting somehow concretizes the agreement concluded between the Association Hôtellerie du Québec (AHQ), the Association Hôtelière du Grand Montréal (AHGM), and the Association Hôtelière de la Région de Québec (AHRQ) to unite their voices and their strengths on the issues they carry out in common.

“We had already collaborated on certain files as part of the agreement this fall, but this week’s meeting is one more step to make everything more concrete and tangible,” says Véronyque Tremblay, president and CEO of the AHQ. . “And it’s gone very well. »

Stronger representation

One of the great advantages of this cooperation lies in the ability of associations to make the voice of hoteliers louder before governments, believes Véronyque Tremblay. They will thus be able to ensure that they unite their voices behind the issues they have in common and ensure that elected officials are aware of their concerns.

“We can also guide the representations according to our strengths. For example, for the tax holiday, it was the AHQ which took the lead because we have more experience working with the federal government, for the negotiations of collective agreements it was Dominique Villeneuve, from the AHGM who took the lead because it was mainly its members who were affected,” she notes.

Shared resources and communications

The meeting also made it possible to see how the three associations could pool some of their resources to be more effective in the future and thus increase their capacity to serve their members. “One of the points that we identified is everything that concerns sustainable development initiatives. We each do a lot of things that overlap and can benefit everyone. By working together, we will be able to do much more,” remarks Véronyque Tremblay.

Also, the different teams will try to better coordinate their communications to their members in the coming months to avoid redundancy of information while ensuring that everyone has the information they need to make their business decisions.

In the same spirit, training courses such as webinars will now be organized in such a way as to be more easily accessible to all and more complementary. “We will try to coordinate to avoid replicating the same training courses with the same speakers in the same year as could happen in the past,” specifies the president of the AHQ.

“In the end we see that it can be very pleasant to cooperate and we see that together we can only be stronger,” she concludes.
