Apple Intelligence: AI at the heart of the update, but still not in France
The highlight of this update is undoubtedly the expansion of Apple Intelligence features. These tools, which use advanced algorithms to enrich the user experience, redefine the way iPhones interact with their owners.
Unfortunately, Apple Intelligence is still not available in France, it should arrive via a subsequent update around April 2025. Apple is, however, extending English support to new countries with iOS 18.2: South Africa, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and United Kingdom.
Image Playgroundfor example, offers a unique creative space where it is possible to generate illustrations or animations by entering textual descriptions or using images from your library. The app, designed to be intuitive and fun, can be accessed as a standalone tool or integrated with other services like Messages and Freeform.
Another major innovation, Genmojiallows you to design personalized emojis from simple descriptions. Once created, these emojis can be shared in your conversations and synced across your devices using iCloud.
Additionally, Siri and writing tools are expanded with ChatGPT integration. This feature allows the voice assistant to respond to complex requests, such as planning a route or writing text. To ensure privacy, these interactions are conducted locally or anonymized, although a ChatGPT account can be linked for extended functionality.
Improvements for camera and native apps
iPhone 16 users will also experience significant changes to camera control. A new feature, Visual intelligenceallows you to identify objects or places simply by pointing the lens. This feature adds options for customizing shutter speed and easy access to the Camera app, even when the screen is off.
L’application Mail has been completely redesigned to better organize messages. Now emails are automatically sorted into four categories: Main, Transactions, Updates and Promotions. This organization aims to make email management more intuitive, with the possibility of manually reclassifying messages for even more personalized sorting.
In the app PhotosApple has fixed some points raised by users, including browsing collections and managing videos. It is now possible to disable automatic loop playback or watch a video frame by frame.
Beyond artificial intelligence
If Apple Intelligence is highlighted, other additions are worth mentioning. The function Find My has an option to share the location of lost items via a link that can be consulted by other users or even airlines. Safari, for its part, introduces additional customization options, such as the possibility of adding background images to the home page or tracking current downloads through dynamic activities.
Finally, features removed in the past, like volume control on the lock screen, are making a return.
