On Wednesday, December 11, the UN requested more than $4 billion to provide humanitarian aid to three million people in the occupied Palestinian territories next year. It's about helping “the entire population of Gaza, estimated at 2.1 million people, and 900,000 people in the West Bank”detailed the UN in its humanitarian appeal. The United Nations adds that needs have increased in the West Bank due to the “deterioration of the situation”.
The humanitarian appeal also highlights that the UN and its partners estimate that at least $6.6 billion (€6.3 billion) is needed to meet the humanitarian needs of 3.3 million people in Gaza and in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. However, they assume that humanitarian actors will continue to be limited in their action due in particular to “severe restrictions imposed” by Israel.
The humanitarian appeal therefore focuses on “most urgent and critical needs”. Thus, the United Nations, which asks Israel to “remove all obstacles to aid and fully facilitate humanitarian operations, including the distribution of essential goods to Palestinians in need”ultimately demand $4.07 billion to help 3 million people next year.
