Israel continues strikes in Gaza and southern Lebanon | Conflict in the Middle East

The Israeli army bombarded the north and center of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. It also carried out strikes in southern Lebanon, despite the ceasefire declared there at the end of November.

Gaza Civil Defense said Wednesday that at least 22 people, including women and children, were killed in an Israeli strike overnight in the northern Palestinian territory of the Gaza Strip.

This strike completely destroyed a three-story house in which more than 50 people lived, many of whom were still under the rubble, said Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal.

For several weeks, in the north of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army has been engaged in an operation which aims, according to it, to prevent the regrouping of militants of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.

In another bombing in the central Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning, at least seven people were killed, according to Mr. Bassal.

For its part, the Israeli army indicated that two projectiles were fired on Wednesday from the center of Gaza towards Israel and intercepted by the air force. Two other projectiles fell in an uninhabited area, according to the army.

Strikes on Lebanon, despite the ceasefire

In Lebanon, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes killed five people on Wednesday in the south of the country, where a fragile ceasefire took effect two weeks ago between Israel and Hezbollah.
