The time for a makeover is approaching for the Provost House. Located at the back of the Sociét’halle, in the city center, this municipal building houses various services and services. However, there are still many Provost residents who do not know what exactly is going on there. Faced with this observation, the Youth and Community Action Service (SeJac) initiated a project to repurpose the site. After the implementation of several participatory workshops in spring 2023 and analysis and prioritization work, the moment of truth has now come.
New layout
“The objective is to make this building identifiable and more accessible and attractive. According to the wish expressed by the workshop participants, we want it to be a meeting place not only for young people, but also for the entire population,” explains Silvère Ackermann, head of SeJac.
Concretely, a report has just been delivered to the Municipal Council. This notably proposes a new layout of the premises of the various occupants, including the SeJac and its youth center, a music and dance studio, the psychomotor services, the chess players and the Seniors’ Council.
Among the changes that would take place, the development of a “calm and therapeutic” space would make it possible to combine psychomotor skills with yoga classes and other similar practices. Also, music and dance studios would no longer coexist but would have separate rooms for greater comfort. On the new side again, a space would be dedicated to the practice of boxing, with several young people engaging in this activity outside the building.
“This proposed layout would make it possible to gain coherence, bring out synergies and encourage social diversity,” notes Silvère Ackermann, who emphasizes that rooms will remain available for occasional uses in particular. “Associations could, for example, ask to use this place,” said the head of SeJac.
“Interesting leads”
Proposals for exterior developments are also made in the report sent to the Municipal Council. The installation of a covered area with chairs and table, a shelter for bicycles and strollers, a plaque for graffiti or even a repair of certain damaged walls and painting work on the facades are notably proposed.
On the side of the Municipal Council, it is indicated that the file must first be submitted to the buildings department before a decision can be made on the follow-up to be taken. “It will also be necessary to assess what is feasible at the financial level, but we can already say that overall, this project presents interesting avenues,” notes Pierre Sauvain, municipal councilor in charge of SeJac.
