A glimmer gone unnoticed in a horizon weighed down by inflation. The prices of mobile and fixed plans have decreased, while operators’ investments remain at a high level, notes the French Telecoms Federation (FFT) in its annual study published this Wednesday. Between 2013 and 2024, package prices fell by 9% for individuals, despite widespread inflation. An accentuated decline between 2023 and 2024, a period during which prices fell by 5%.
Price drop but data increase
The price of a fixed plan, Internet and telephone, reached on average 33 euros in 2023, when the price of a mobile plan amounted to 14 euros. A situation which makes French prices “the most competitive in Europe”, notes the FFT. This drop in prices is accompanied by an increase in data consumption in 2023, the French consume on average 17 gigabytes (GB) per month, compared to 14.3 GB the previous year.
The price per gigabyte consumed has thus mechanically fallen by 68% in France between 2019 and 2023. Regarding offers intended for professionals, prices have followed a similar trajectory, with an average increase in mobile data consumption of 22% per year. year between 2018 and 2022 and an average annual price drop of 7% over the same period.
