Sébastien Pocognoli will be without Ross Sykes until next year. Bad news for a Union which is nevertheless making good progress.
The Union Saint-Gilloise could end the year 2024 with a bang. A victory this Thursday evening against OGC Nice and the top 24 will be within reach, after a complicated debut in the Europa League for Sébastien Pocognoli’s men.
Also in the championship, USG remains on a series of unbeaten matches, even if the Unionists have also conceded 3 draws in the last 5 matches. During the trip to Cercle de Bruges, Ross Sykes was injured, and this Wednesday at a press conference, the news was not good.
Sébastien Pocognoli has in fact confirmed that his English defender will not return in 2024. “Ross suffers from a contracture and a strain in the adductor. He will be absent 2-3 weeks and we can therefore say that his year is over”, reveals the Union coach in comments relayed by The Last Hour.
Bad luck for Ross Sykes, who had already missed the first weeks of competition due to a foot injury. The Englishman only returned to the eleven at the end of October and was finding his feet again, even scoring last week against Antwerp.
Good news, however, for the Union with the return from injury of Alessio Castro-Montes, absent for two months and who has resumed collective training. He could be part of the group this Thursday against Nice.
