A nanny was charged and imprisoned for murder in France, we learned from judicial sources on Wednesday. The procedure begins three months after the death by asphyxiation of a 22-month-old girl in her care.
This childminder, who was presented to an investigating judge on Friday, was placed in pre-trial detention, explained the Lyon prosecutor’s office.
On September 13, the child was found dead at the childminder’s home in Chessy-les-Mines, in the Beaujolais wine region. The prosecution opened an investigation to determine the causes of death.
The autopsy revealed that the little girl died of asphyxiation, said Villefranche-sur-Saône prosecutor Laetitia Francart.
The approval of the childminder, a forty-year-old, was suspended after the events. She had been practicing her profession for around fifteen years, according to the regional daily “Le Progrès”.
