Microsoft Unveils Christmas Sweater Featuring Xbox’s Ring of Death

Like every year for the past six years, Microsoft has unveiled the new edition of its ugly Christmas sweater. For the moment, it is reserved for company employees.

The ugly Christmas sweater will soon be out. Every year, brands are full of ingenuity to come up with the most ridiculous sweater, complete with Christmas baubles, reindeer and mustachioed Santa Claus. And, as The Verge reports, Microsoft is no exception.

A tradition for six years

The company this year unveiled the “Xbox 360 glith holiday sweater,” a green striped sweater decorated with a power button. The latter can light up green… or turn into a red ring of death, this famous button which indicates that a critical failure affects the console and that it becomes unusable.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has offered its own Christmas sweater. It has even become a tradition on the online store for six years now. Every year, the Redmond firm creates an ugly Christmas sweater, inspired by its history and its software.

Last year, the company unveiled a sweater featuring the iconic design of the default Windows XP wallpaper. Microsoft was also inspired by the designs of its mascot Clippy, from the game Minesweeper or Windows 95 and Paint.

Typically, the sweaters are available to the general public for as little as $69.99…and are sold out within hours. Some models are even resold on Ebay or Vinted… for 200 dollars.

But fans of the brand may be disappointed. For the moment, the new 2024 edition of the sweater is reserved for Microsoft employees. And, according to information from The Verge, the sweater is already almost sold out.
