the Sagrada Familia reaches 142.5 m

“The twelfth level maintains the characteristic geometry of the tower, with triangular windows that follow the paraboloid shapes typical of Gaudí’s design “, specified those responsible for the project. It is also the last stage where stone remains the main material, since the terminal will incorporate various decorative elements in trencadís, a mosaic typical of Catalan modernism.

Inside, the tower features a stone staircase that gradually widens as you climb, while the silhouette of the tower narrows. This combination of shapes creates “ a unique architectural effect » particularly on this twelfth level where the interior staircase joins the interior wall of the tower.

Massive tourism causing problems

On the other hand, Barcelona City Hall, led by Jaume Collboni, announced that it would invest 15.5 million euros in the Action Plan for the Busy Area (EGA) of the Sagrada Família. It is the first of 15 EGAs which will be set up by the Barcelona municipality in order to manage tourist flows in the Catalan capital. The program, presented this week to the municipal council, includes 37 measures and will be in force until 2027. It was carried out in collaboration with associations, residents and local officials. Among the four challenges defined by the EGA: the saturation of public space or the transformation of businesses in the area. The municipality emphasizes that the impressive volume of tourists impacts the daily life of the neighborhood’s residents, who demand the use of public space.

Every year, around 20 million people visit the Sagrada Família construction site. A success which generates cohabitation problems. In order to better manage public space, the urban landscape and tourist attractions will be reworked. The Bus 4.0 system will be launched to improve the flow of tourist buses passing through the district.

Local shops will be preserved, while trying to develop the diversity of economic activity. The plan provides for several measures to control unauthorized activities, including the inspection of housing conversions.
