More than 300 Israeli strikes on Syria since Sunday
Israel has carried out more than 300 airstrikes on Syria since the capture of Damascus by rebels and the fall of President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said this morning. This organization, which relies on a vast network of sources across Syria, says it has listed “nearly 310 strikes” carried out by “Israeli air force” since Sunday morning. Explosions were observed in Damascus early this morning by AFP journalists.
The Israeli army “destroyed the main military sites in Syria” specified the NGO, bombing, among other things, airports, radars, arms and ammunition depots and military research centers in several regions, including of Damascus, and damaging Syrian naval vessels by attacking an air defense unit near the major port of Latakia, in the northwest of the country.
These raids aim “to destroy the remaining weapons in warehouses and military units which were controlled by the forces of the former regime”, an ally of Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah, the OSDH said in a press release. The Israeli army had no immediate comment.
