The Israeli army seized a buffer zone in Syria’s Golan Heights in violation of a 1974 disengagement agreement, while Russia granted asylum to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Israel announced Monday that it was carrying out attacks against “weapon systems” on Syrian territoryas part of a measure qualified as “limited and temporary”.
Quoted by The GuardianIsraeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said: “The only interest we have is the security of Israel and its citizens. That is why we have attacked strategic weapons systems, such as remnants of chemical weapons as well as long-range missiles and rockets, so that they do not fall into the hands of extremists”.
Vladimir Putin authorized the arrival of Bashar al-Assad
These Israeli strikes come at a time when the Kremlin confirmed that Vladimir Putin himself authorized the departure of Bashar al-Assad for Russia.
“Such decisions certainly cannot be taken without the head of state”said the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, during a conference call with journalists. “He was the one who made the decision.”.
Dmitry Peskov, however, refused to give details on the whereabouts of Bashar al-Assad and his family, saying that Vladimir Putin had no intention of meeting them.
Finally, the Kremlin spokesperson claimed that Moscow had done everything necessary to guarantee the security of its military bases in Syriawhile waiting to initiate a dialogue with the new Syrian authorities.
“At the moment we are witnessing a period of transformation and extreme instability, which will obviously take time and require a serious conversation with those who will hold power”he declared.
