Murder of the boss of the American insurance giant UnitedHealthcare: a suspect questioned

One of the law enforcement officials said the man had a gun, a silencer and fake IDs similar to those he believes the killer used in New York.

The investigation is progressing after the murder on December 4 of Brian Thompson, the boss of UnitedHealthcare, the leading health insurer in the United States.

According to the New York Times, a man is currently being questioned by police after being identified by a witness at a McDonald’s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

One of the law enforcement officials said the man had a gun, a silencer and fake IDs similar to those he believes the killer used in New York.

Over the weekend, photographs of the suspect in a taxi surfaced as police combed through thousands of hours of surveillance camera footage to gather information about the man’s movements during what she thinks it’s her 11 days in New York.

Remember that an armed man was waiting in front of a hotel for Brian Thompson who was to hold a conference there. After opening fire three times, the suspect fled on a bicycle.

Since then, a real manhunt has been carried out by the police, who are even offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information on this murder.

Investigators found bullet casings at the scene with the words “deposit”, “deny” and “delay” written on them, a possible reference to terms used by insurers to avoid paying compensation.

“The motive for this murder is currently unknown, but based on the evidence we have so far, it appears that the victim was specifically targeted,” said Joe Kenny, chief investigator for the New York Police Department. At this point we don’t know why.”

UnitedHealthcare (51 million policyholders) is known to increase the number of refusals of care and/or reimbursement. Enough to arouse anger among its members.
