As the second stage of the Biathlon World Cup approaches in Hochfilzen, Austria, the French Ski Federation has chosen to maintain strategic continuity. The same thirteen athletes, present during the opening in Kontiolahti, will be lined up to represent the tricolors.
The French Ski Federation has formalized the composition of the French teams for the second stage of the 2024-2025 Biathlon World Cup, which will be held in Hochfilzen, Austria, from Friday. Faithful to a strategy of stability, the technical staff, under the direction of Stéphane Bouthiaux, chose to bring back the same thirteen athletes present at the opening of the season in Kontiolahti, in Finland. For the ladies, seven biathletes will make up a solid and experienced team.
Julia Simon, undisputed leader of the women’s team, will be accompanied by Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Lou Jeanmonnot, two names already well established on the world circuit while young talents, like Océane Michelon and Jeanne Richard, will have a new opportunity to make their proof at the highest level. Gilonne Guigonnat and Sophie Chauveau complete this homogeneous selection. However, this stage marks an important transition since the Bleues will have to reduce their squad by one athlete for the next stage at Grand-Bornand, due to a reduced quota.
The 13 French biathletes continue a new week of competition
On the men’s side, the six selected biathletes show promising dynamics. Quentin Fillon-Maillet, five-time Olympic medalist, and Emilien Jacquelin, vice-world champion, will guide the team, while Fabien Claude and Eric Perrot continue their momentum. Antonin Guigonnat and Emilien Claude, integrated thanks to their performances in the IBU Cup, complete the group, testifying to the depth of the French tank.
The continuity of this selection is part of the strategy to consolidate automatisms and strengthen cohesion within the teams before the major deadlines of the season. With Hochfilzen, an emblematic site of world biathlon, as a backdrop, the Blues will have the opportunity to confirm their potential in the face of already fierce international competition. A few days before the competition, all eyes are on these thirteen athletes, carrying the hopes of a nation passionate about biathlon.
