Fake blood spilled in front of the Israeli embassy to denounce the “genocide” in Gaza

Amnesty Belgium carried out a shocking action on Monday shortly after 9:30 a.m. in front of the Israeli embassy and its surroundings, in Uccle, on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide. Around twenty people participated.

When they arrived in front of the embassy, the activists spilled liters of fake blood to denounce the genocide they believe was committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. They also held up “Stop Genocide” banners, one of which measured three meters, and replaced nine plaques to rename the street “Genocide Avenue”.

“We have just released a report which shows that there is a genocide underway in Gaza”said Carine Thibaut, general director of Amnesty International for French-speaking Belgium. “For us, it was essential to use this day to send a message to the Israeli authorities so that this genocide stops”she added. In this report, published Thursday, Amnesty International affirms that Israel has subjected the Palestinians in Gaza to a permanent outbreak of violence and destruction, with complete impunity, since the attack of October 7, 2023.

In addition to pointing out the responsibility of the Israeli authorities, the organization wanted to send a strong message to the Belgian authorities. “It is essential that our country makes maximum efforts in the fight against impunity, supporting proceedings before the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, and ensuring that suspected perpetrators of international crimes can also be brought to justice in Belgium”underlined Carine Thibaut.

The police, who appeared to have been warned, urged the activists to end the symbolic action and leave the scene quickly.
