A senior Israeli official revealed that the IDF is considering a “significant attack” against Yemen, according to reports broadcast Sunday evening on the public channel Kan 11. The statement comes after the launch of two ballistic missiles towards Israel in recent days. Israeli defense authorities note that, unlike the militias in Iraq who reduced their attacks last week, and despite occasional strikes in Yemen, the Houthis continue their missile attacks. “It is necessary to send a more painful message,” says the source.
Since the start of the war and the massacre of October 7, the Houthis have joined the attacks against Israel by launching missiles and drones. In September, dozens of Israeli Air Force fighter jets struck targets in Yemen. The IDF announced that it had targeted installations of the “Houthi terrorist regime” approximately 1,800 kilometers from the Israeli border during a large air operation.
“The attacked infrastructure and ports are being used by the Houthi regime to transfer Iranian weapons to the region and supplies for military purposes, including oil,” the IDF statement said at the time. “This strike was carried out in response to recent attacks by the Houthi regime against the State of Israel.”
In July, Yevgeny Ferder was killed in Tel Aviv by a drone launched from Yemen. The device hit the hostel where Yevgeny worked as a maintenance worker, after flying along the Mediterranean and entering Tel Aviv airspace by sea. According to IDF data, more than 200 missiles from cruises and drones have been launched from Yemen since the start of the war.
