Michail Antonio Undergoes Surgery Following Car Accident: Updates from West Ham

In a major update, West Ham United have confirmed that striker Michail Antonio has successfully undergone surgery for a ‘lower limb fracture’ following a car accident on Saturday. According to Essex Police officials, the incident was reported shortly after noon involving a collision with a single vehicle, a Ferrari.

West Ham released a statement reassuring fans that the 34-year-old was “conscious and communicating” when he arrived at a central London hospital following the incident. The club also noted that Antonio will be monitored in the coming days to ensure a smooth recovery following surgery.

In its statement, the club expressed its wishes for a “speedy recovery” and thanked all emergency services and first responders, as well as the medical team dedicated to assisting Antonio’s rehabilitation. They also thanked the football community for their overwhelming support and heartfelt messages since news of the accident emerged.

Meanwhile, the Essex Road Policing Unit is actively investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses and reviewing in-car camera footage to piece together the events surrounding the crash. Antonio had a prolific career with West Ham, making 268 appearances and scoring 68 goals. However, his current season has only seen him find the net once in 15 appearances.

As West Ham prepare to face Wolverhampton Wanderers this Monday, the team are looking to strengthen their position in the Premier League. With four wins and three defeats recorded from 14 matches this season, the Hammers currently sit above the relegation zone but are keen to secure a place in the top half of the table. Coach Julen Lopetegui is under scrutiny, especially as the league has witnessed two coaching dismissals this season.
