An impressive incident deprives residents of water for a day in Paimpol

An incident “very rare”, according to Terres d’Armor habitat which could have had more serious consequences. On November 19, 2024, the firefighters were called by an agent from the Le Quinic autonomy residence, located in Paimpol (Côtes-d’Armor). When turning on a dishwasher, the woman realized that “burning steam” came out of the device. “It made a lot of noise. It was impressive. I came out straight away,” she confided, the same day, to West .

“Luckily no one was on the toilet”

A hot water tank overheated following a technical incident, in this case, the rupture of a pipe, according to Terres d’Armor habitat, owner of the buildings. In one of the rooms of this residence, which houses 50 independent elderly people, a toilet flush even melted due to a boiling water leak. “Luckily, no one was on the toilet,” underlined the manager of the establishment.

The problem is closed

Consequence of the problem: half of the residents were deprived of water all day, until the cause was identified. In the meantime, the elderly people had to go to the toilet in the other building of the residence and ate their meals with disposable cutlery. One person was relocated while their toilet was repaired. “The situation is restored and the problem is closed”, indicates Terres d’Armor habitat, through Arthur Le Mire, head of the establishment service, who assures that he has changed the safety devices around the balloon.

This is not the first time that a problem has arisen in this establishment. In June 2021, 49 residents were transferred to another wing after, again, a problem with abnormal pressure in a hot water tank. An agent was then burned on the neck and a security perimeter established around the housing unit. The situation was restored after a day.
