Murder trial: a father will join his son in the penitentiary

A father who led his 20-year-old son on a “deadly rampage” in Quebec has just been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

You failed in your role as a fathernoted judge François Huot with severity, addressing Dominic Larocque. His son Cédric is serving a life sentence, without the possibility of parole for 13 years, after killing Manuel Paradis in a rooming house on Chemin Sainte-Foy.

During the day of November 1, 2022, Paradis punched Father Larocque, injuring him in his pridethe judge remarked.

Dominic Larocque therefore decides to go to Paradis, in the evening, for him pass a messagein the company of his son and a teenager.

The building where the altercation occurred houses 28 small apartments.

A fight breaks out and in the tumult, Cédric stabs the victim in the heart.

The judge told the father that today his son was languishing in the penitentiary even though he had no reason to come to the victim’s house.

He saved my lifelaunched Father Larocque from the dock, regarding his boy. The judge replied that he would not have had to do it if he had not carried out his plan. And above all, that his son Cédric would not spend his 1st of 13 Christmases in the penitentiary.

Both men were initially charged with first degree murder. At the end of his trial presided over by Judge Huot, a jury found Cédric Larocque guilty of second degree murder last June.

His father, who was also due to stand trial, instead chose to admit his guilt to a reduced charge of manslaughter, following an agreement between the prosecution and the defense.

His lawyer, Me Éva Bouchard of legal aid, made it clear that Dominic Bélanger felt persecuted by the victim and that his goal was to him pass a message.

According to the defense, it was not a matter of murderous runas indicated by the prosecutor, Me Matthieu Rochette, during the presentation of the facts.

Me Rochette was assisted by Me Jean-François Paré in this matter. Me Alex Savoie from legal aid supported Me Bouchard.

Due to preventive detention, there are six and a half years of detention remaining on the 10-year sentence imposed on Dominic Larocque.
