Türkiye. Two Kurdish hostages released after 32 years behind bars – ???? Info Libertaire

Türkiye – Abdulkahhar Aksoy (62) and Ahmet Özgen, Kurdish political prisoners held in Izmir Ödemiş T-type prison, have been released. Ahmet Özgen regained his freedom after 32 years and Abdulkahar Aksoy after 31 years in prison. They were sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM) for “attack on the unity and integrity of the State”.

The released prisoners were welcomed by their families, the Aegean Association of Assistance and Solidarity with the Families of Detainees and Convicts (EGE TUHAYDER) and members of the DEM party.

Özgen and Aksoy were welcomed by their families living in Izmir in their neighborhood with applause and singing

32 years in prison for “undermining the unity and integrity of the State”

Abdulkahhar Aksoy was detained and arrested in Izmir in 1993. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the State Security Court (DGM), where he was tried, for “attack on the unity and integrity of the State”. Aksoy, who was due to be released on November 1, 2023, had his execution extended twice by 6 months each due to the solitary sentences he had previously received. Aksoy was released following appeals by his lawyers.

Ahmet Özgen was arrested on similar charges in İzmir in 1992 and his execution was prolonged. He was released following appeals by his lawyers.
