The Brussels Court of Appeal rendered a “historic” judgment by condemning the Belgian state for “crimes against humanity” for its segregationist policy during the colonial period. For decades, mixed-race children were forcibly removed from their mothers and placed under state care in religious institutions. Why is this judgment happening now?
