The fire broke out around 2 a.m., on the night of Tuesday December 3 to Wednesday December 4, 2024, in an industrial building, at the Champs-Romet farm, in Saint-Fulgent-des-Ormes, in the Orne, on the edge of Sarthe. The farm raises and processes pigs, beef, lamb and poultry.

42 firefighters on site
The building, with an area of 1,200 m², used for meat processing, was destroyed over 600 m². Thirty employees found themselves technically unemployed this morning, according to firefighters from Sdis 61 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service). According to Captain Mikaël Joret, of the Mortagne-au-Perche gendarmerie company, “the buildings in the sales section are the most affected, and to a lesser extent, the meat processing section”.
Inventories of products, ready to be put on sale, would be destroyed, as well as the entire computer system, just before the end of year holidays, a crucial period for the company. On the other hand, the animals have never been in danger.

A large emergency device was deployed on site, since the beginning of the night, 42 firefighters from the centers of Bellême, Mauves-sur-Huisne, Alençon, Mortagne-au-Perche, Moulins-sur-Orne, Saint- Côme-en-Vairais (Sarthe), La Ferté-Bernard (Sarthe), Mamers (Sarthe), Domfront and du Theil are fighting against the flames. At 7 a.m. this Wednesday, the intervention was still in progress.
