Bad news for Africa: Canada makes a decision…

This announcement by Canada is inevitably bad news for foreigners coming from Africa.

The Canadian government anticipates a significant transition as nearly five million temporary permits expire by the end of 2025.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller said the majority of permit holders will leave the country voluntarily, while the Border Services Agency (CBSA) will enforce the laws for violators.

Faced with increasing pressure on infrastructure and social services, the Trudeau administration announced a reduction in immigration levels.

The number of permanent residents will be reduced from 500,000 to 395,000 by 2025, while admissions of temporary foreign workers and international students will decline by 40% and 10%, respectively, by 2026.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau justified these measures by citing challenges related to post-pandemic population growth. “While foreign workers are essential, the current pace of immigration is straining our housing and healthcare systems”he declared.

The goal is to ease pressure on infrastructure while meeting labor needs, allowing Canada to maintain a strong but more balanced immigration program.

Foreigners coming from Africa will have to make their own arrangements if they want to continue living and working in Canada.
