Cillian Murphy, here in New York on March 8, 2020, is expected to play Voldemort in the future HBO Max series.
SERIES – The old Voldemort knights the new. Actor Ralph Fiennes, who plays the famous He-Whose-Name-Must-Not-Pronounce in the films Harry Potter, expressed his joy to see that the name of Cillian Murphy was circulating to play this role in the future HBO series on the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Ralph Fiennes currently starring in Conclave was interviewed on the show Watch What Happens Live on the American channel Bravo. While the rumor surrounding Cillian Murphy has been growing for several weeks, the actor who played Voldemort during the last four films in the saga estimated that “Cillian was a fantastic actor”.

The fact that the name of the Irish actor is cited to play Voldemort is “a brilliant idea, I’m completely for it, yes”added Ralph Fiennes as you can see in the video below (in English). The latter does not seem to have taken the bait, although he assured during another interview in Variety that he would be very keen to reprise his role in the series.
The casting is not yet known
None of the actors in the series are known yet. Last September, casting was launched to find the next young Harry, Ron and Hermione, respectively played in the films by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. The latter three are (at this point) not scheduled to appear. Mark Rylance is the big favorite to play Dumbledore.
The HBO Max platform also announced that director Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) and screenwriter Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) will have the difficult task of adapting the literary saga on the small screen.
The adaptation is barely on track when controversies have already arisen, due to the presence of JK Rowling in the creative process. The writer who gave birth to the Harry Potter universe is now controversial for her transphobic comments.
