Fire at the Sanglier des Ardennes: no injuries, all danger is over

A major fire destroyed the hotel “Le Sanglier des Ardennes” on Monday evening. An impressive smoke was released above the roofs. Around thirty firefighters were mobilized to the scene.

A fire broke out on Monday evening in the center of Durbuy, and more precisely at the back of the “Sanglier des Ardennes” hotel. A large amount of smoke was visible above the adjoining “Wagyu” restaurant, where the fire started. It then spread to the neighboring hotel. “Everyone is safe“, publishes Marc Coucke, the owner of the establishment, on his Instagram account. Around fifty customers were evacuated and relocated.

“We were contacted early in the evening about a cooking fire”explains Stéphane Thiry, commander of the Luxembourg relief zone. “On arrival, the firefighters noticed that it did not come from the kitchen but from a wood-burning system which had caused a fire to the roof,” he continues.

There were no injuries. Two people were treated for slight smoke intoxication, but nothing serious. During the evening, the situation was under control.

At 8:45 p.m., the fire was still in progress, according to our RTBF colleague present there and who sent us these photos. The last flames were extinguished around midnight.

This Tuesday, according to our colleagues from L’Avenir, experts were already on site to assess the extent of the damage.
