The Bruges toy media library partially takes on water when it rains

Clearly, the City of Bruges is unlucky with one of its flagship facilities, the game media library set up within the Treulon Castle (18th century).e), as part of a rehabilitation-extension operation worth around 7 million euros.

The dismantling of part of the wooden ceiling of the buried part began on Monday, December 2.

Inaugurated in September 2022, after three long years of work, the cultural site did not take long to experience its first repeated incidents. In question, a freight elevator serving as an elevator. The sensitivity of the sensors regularly put the mechanism in safety, and therefore out of service. Failures and inconveniences for people with reduced mobility were frequent. Replacing the device with a real elevator eventually resolved the malfunctions.

Work damage

That's not all, the building experienced water infiltration problems in the semi-buried extension. The first were located at the level of the exterior skylights (or skylights). The repairs made made it possible to plug the gaps. More recently (September-October), new leaks appeared, still on the ceiling of the contemporary part of the building. Faced with this new disaster, the City wanted to protect itself by filing a construction damage claim with its insurer. In doing so, she will not have to advance the amount of the repair work.

This Monday, December 2, the company which had installed the wooden ceiling proceeded to dismantle part of the panels, while awaiting the visit of the expert. In light of his investigations, he will have to propose a restoration solution. Until then, access to the disaster zone (including 2,700 documentaries) will be reduced or even prohibited to users. Structures directly exposed to the threat of water were moved or protected by tarpaulins. Ultimately, a click & collect system could be put in place to maintain the loan of works. The other areas of the game media library remain open to the public, under the usual conditions.
