The project for a luxury hotel on a nature base in Fréjus has not found any takers. And that’s so much the better!
As was explained during the last municipal council (Var-matin of November 29), no developer is interested in the construction of a building on this natural space so popular with Fréjusiens and the thousands of visitors who, throughout year-round, walk, run, stroll there, simply get some fresh air.
The call for projects which had been launched by the municipality to build a luxurious hotel with a private beach therefore remained a dead letter. However, rather than repackaging this file without tail or head, David Rachline, the RN mayor concreter of Fréjus, will relaunch the procedure. There is no question for him of abandoning this highly contested project, which in fact consists of privatizing a natural area. For what purpose? “develop tourism”, thanks to “this major development for the city” dares David Rachline. Major for whom? Essentially the municipality which would collect rent of 3 million euros.
In the hope of finding a new candidate promoter, the specifications of this file have therefore been modified (longer lease duration – more than 70 years – in particular) and a new call for projects will be launched soon.
This stubbornness of the municipality in wanting to build a luxurious private establishment at all costs, a stone's throw from the sea, is turning into an obsession. David Rachline would do better to give up on this crazy idea and leave this unique 135 hectare green lung on the French Riviera alone.
