Béziers: a 61-year-old man killed with a knife, his young neighbor indicted for murder

A 61-year-old man died on Saturday evening in Béziers (Hérault) following stab wounds.

At the end of her police custody, the main suspect, her 22-year-old neighbor, was indicted for murder.

A 61-year-old man died on Saturday in Béziers (Hérault) following stab wounds, the prosecution said on Sunday. Early Saturday evening, emergency services tried in vain to revive this sixty-year-old who had knife wounds to his neck. “A lot of blood was found on site, particularly in the stairwell and in the apartment of his next-door neighbor”explained the Béziers prosecutor, Raphaël Balland, in a press release, confirming information from a police source.

At the same time, a 22-year-old woman, covered in blood, identified as the sixty-year-old's neighbor, was arrested by the police near the building. She was accompanied by her 6-year-old daughter. Neither had any injuries.

At the end of her police custody, the mother was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention, Béziers prosecutor Raphaël Balland announced on Monday. “Giving successive versions, she confusedly affirmed that it was an accident which occurred during an altercation between her and the deceased about the behavior he allegedly had towards her daughter”he detailed. “According to her, her neighbor then physically attacked her while holding a kitchen knife with which he ultimately got involved in the fight”added the magistrate.

The investigations were entrusted to the Béziers police station, the interdepartmental service of the judicial police and the scientific police. “The investigations which will take several months are continuing under the authority of the investigating magistrate in order to determine more precisely the course of the facts and the circumstances of their commission”concludes the prosecution.
