The ATP published this Monday its Top 5 best matches of the season (excluding Grand Slam tournaments), with first place unsurprisingly occupied by the spectacular final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in Beijing (6-7, 6 -4, 7-6).
The Spaniard won the tournament after 3h21 of play and a final tie-break where he recovered from a 3-0 handicap. The two men played the longest match in the history of the ATP 500 in Beijing that day.
Second place goes to the extremely close Cincinnati semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev (7-6, 5-7, 7-6), won by the Italian after 3h07 of play.
A victory which opened the way to the title by beating Frances Tiafoe in the final the next day.
On the last step of the podium, we find the Monte-Carlo semi-final between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner (6-4, 3-6, 6-4).
The Greek won after a great fight lasting almost three hours (2h40 of play) and by winning the last four games of the third set while he was trailing 4-2.
But this match was also marked by a refereeing error against Sinner which caused controversy.
To continue in this Top 5, the ATP chose to place the Hamburg final between Arthur Fils and Zverev (6-3, 3-6, 7-6) in fourth place.
The Frenchman won the tournament after a 3h30 battle and break points saved at 5-5 in the last set.
Finally, it is the unexpected victory of Alexander Zverev in the United Cup against Hubert Hurkacz (6-7, 7-6, 6-4) which appears in fifth place.
The German saved two match points in the tie-break of the second set to then keep his team alive in the final against Poland.
