Lebanon and Gaza at the heart of the meeting between French and Israeli foreign ministers
The French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, spoke on Sunday with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar, in a context of persistent tensions in the Middle East. During this telephone exchange, the head of French diplomacy insisted on the importance of respecting the ceasefire in Lebanon by all parties, underlining the diplomatic efforts deployed by France in coordination with the United States. Mr. Barrot also called for the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon to serve as a catalyst for an immediate truce in Gaza. This pause should, according to him, allow the release of all the hostages and facilitate the massive delivery of humanitarian aid. With this in mind, he announced new French humanitarian commitments, which will be detailed during the conference on aid to Gaza organized the same day in Cairo.
The two ministers also discussed the situation in Syria and the Iranian nuclear program, agreeing to maintain close contact on all of these sensitive regional issues.
